Finding the Right Puppy
Why Finding a Reputable Breeder Matters
Choosing a responsible, reputable breeder is one of the most important steps when adding a dog to your family. A reputable breeder prioritizes health, temperament, and the long-term welfare of their puppies. They perform health testing on breeding dogs, carefully plan litters, and support buyers for the lifetime of the dog.

Backyard Breeders and the Risks
Backyard breeders often breed dogs without knowledge of genetics, structure, or health. They may skip essential health screenings and breed without a clear purpose or understanding of breed standards. Their puppies may be poorly socialized, more prone to health and behavioral issues, and sold to anyone with cash—no questions asked.
The Shelter Connection
Many dogs from backyard breeders end up in shelters or rescue groups. This happens when families are unprepared for the challenges of raising a poorly bred dog—or when medical or behavioral problems become overwhelming. Without breeder support, owners often have no safety net and surrender the dog.
Choose Wisely. Protect the Breed.
When you buy from a reputable breeder, you're not just getting a pet—you’re joining a community that supports responsible ownership and the future of the breed. Always demand to see health clearances, pedigrees, and ask questions. And remember: ethical breeders are just as interested in interviewing you as you are in choosing the right puppy.

Finding a Reputable Breeder:

A nice website or social media presence does not make someone a reputable breeder. It is sometimes hard to tell the difference but here are some tips:
Look for a breeder who is a member of an AKC Club (most all clubs have a strict Code of Ethics which includes minimum breeding requirements.

Look for a breeder with experience, health testing, some level of activity with their dogs (not just breeding) and puppy socialization.
