The American Kennel Club currently recognized 34 breeds in the Sporting Dog Group. ​  There are four basic types of Sporting dogs; spaniels, pointers, retrievers and setters.

Sporting dogs are known for their remarkable athleticism and sharp instincts, paired with unwavering loyalty and a joyful spirit. Bred to work closely with humans in the field, they possess a rare combination of intelligence, trainability, and heart. Whether flushing game, retrieving in water, or simply being a devoted member of the family, sporting dogs embody a grace and sense of purpose that truly sets them apart. Many sporting breeds also excel as service and therapy dogs, offering comfort, assistance, and emotional support to those in need. Their boundless energy, gentle nature, and strong desire to please create a deep and lasting bond with their people—making them not just skilled partners, but cherished companions.
